Weapons-related offences

Shortly before midnight last night, Chatham-Kent police responded to a downtown Chatham address for an altercation involving a weapon.

Police arrived and located the man a short distance away.

The man refused to co-operate and fled from police.

After a short foot pursuit, the man was taken into custody.

A 38-year-old Chatham man is charged with weapons dangerous, assault with a weapon, theft, theft of mail, resist arrest, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of stolen property, and three counts of failing to comply with probation order.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman charged with fraud

In late January, Chatham-Kent police began a fraud investigation, as an online banking profile was set-up and several transactions, including an application for a credit card, were made without the account owner’s authorization.

Through investigation, police identified the man and woman responsible.

Shortly before noon yesterday, a 46-year-old Chatham woman turned herself in at police headquarters.

A warrant has been requested for a 47-year-old Chatham man.

Drug charges

Yesterday morning at approximately 8:30 a.m., Chatham-Kent police conducted a traffic stop on Margaret Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, the driver and passenger were found to be in possession of a controlled substance.

A 37-year-old woman of no fixed address and a 36-year-old Wallaceburg man were arrested and charged with multiply counts of being in possession of a controlled substance.

Shoplifting and drug charges

In two unrelated incidents yesterday evening at approximately 9 p.m. and again at 10 p.m., police responded to theft investigations at Wal-Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

In each case, police received information the women were observed removing items from the store.

Police attended and located the women.

Upon arrest the women were found in possession of a controlled substance.

In the first matter, a 33-year-old Windsor woman was arrested.

In the second, a 29-year-old Chatham woman was arrested.

They were charged with theft, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.

Intoxicated situation

Early yesterday morning, police responded to a man walking on Base Line near Smoke Line in Camden Township.

Police attended and found the man intoxicated and unable to care for himself.

A 19-year-old Dresden man was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and held until he was sober.
