Sexual assault charges

On Friday night, Chatham-Kent police arrested a man wanted for various sex charges.

Police say officers arrested the man about 9 p.m.

The male, who was wanted for multiple accounts of sexual assault, sexual interference and inviting to sexual touching, was charged and released with a future court date.

Drug, weapon charges

Yesterday afternoon, police located a man on Wellington Street in Chatham who was wanted for weapon and drug related offences along with failing to attend court.

The man was arrested and upon being searched incident to arrest, was found to be in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine, digital scale, glass drug pipe, flick knife and homemade knife.

Through investigation, police learned that the man was currently bound by conditions not to possess any weapons.

A 50-year-old Chatham man was charged with drug possession, failing to comply with his release conditions, unauthorized possession of a weapon and being in possession of a weapon contrary to a Prohibition Order. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Family angst

On Friday night, a woman attended her sister’s home in Chatham where a verbal argument began.

The argument escalated into a physical altercation.

The woman left prior to police arrival.

Yesterday afternoon, a 38-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with assault. She was released pending a future court date.

Domestic abuse

Late yesterday afternoon, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that a man assaulted and threatened his common-law wife during an argument.

A 38-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault and uttering threats. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Assault

Last night, police responded to a disturbance on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that a man assaulted a woman with whom he was not to communicate with.

A 42-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault and failing to comply with his release conditions. He was released pending a future court date.

Restaurant break in

Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday morning, Chatham-Kent police say someone threw a piece of porcelain through a window at Mike’s Place restaurant in Chatham, gaining entry.

A tablet was stolen from the business and the investigation is still ongoing.

Woman turns herself in

Last Tuesday night, a woman attended Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen Street in Chatham and concealed various items in a bag.

The woman left the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise.

Total value of the theft was approximately $170.

Officers reviewed video surveillance and identified the woman responsible.

Sunday morning, the woman attended police headquarters and turned herself in. A 26-year-old Chatham woman is charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

Shoplifting

Yesterday afternoon, a man attended Wal-Mart and Dollarama in Chatham, stealing various items from each store.

Officers located the man and he was taken into custody.

A 45-year-old Walpole Island man is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and two counts of being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.
