Resisting arrest

Last night, Chatham-Kent police responded to shoplifting complaint at Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen Street in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the woman concealed two cosmetic gift boxes in her purse.

The woman left the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Total value of the theft was estimated at $186.

Officers located the woman walking on Queen Street. As officers approached the woman, she used foul language and refused to stop.

As the woman was taken into custody, police say she tried to pull away and resist arrest. While being placed in the rear of the cruiser, she continued to kick at the officers.
A 36-year-old woman of no fixed address has been charged with theft, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Failing to comply

On Aug. 18, a man was released from custody with several conditions. Two of those conditions stated that he was not to communicate with a specific Wallaceburg woman or attend her home.

Early yesterday morning, the man attended the woman’s residence and fell asleep in the basement of the apartment. During the day, a verbal argument began, resulting in the man throwing items around the house. The woman fled the residence and called for help.

Officers attended the home and found the man in the basement.

A 30-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. The man was also arrested on an outstanding warrant in connection with a robbery investigation.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Property charges

Earlier this month, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at a residence and adjacent property on Grande River Line.

On the property, officers located: a 2006 purple Chevrolet four-door sedan, reported stolen from Tecumseh in August; and a 2014 Triumph 675cc motorcycle, reported stolen in Hamilton. Total value of the stolen property was estimated at $10,000.

A 43-year-old Dover Township man was arrested and charged recently with two counts of being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.
