Where are the chains of office?

Sir: I love the city of Chatham-Kent and I am proud to be a resident. What I don’t understand is why our excellent mayor, who deserves all our respect, doesn’t seem to have a chain of office.

For many hundreds of years, a new mayor of a community in the Western world has been presented with a chain which he wears at council meetings and other official gatherings.

It isn’t any type of public gloating. This is like a judge’s regalia or the uniform of a military officer; it’s a sign of his authority and deserves respect.

Can anybody explain the reason for this departure from the norm?
