Around 6 p.m. on Sunday night, a woman attempted to walk out of the Canadian Tire in Chatham with a pair of sandals and jacket without paying.

Chatham-Kent police say a store employee tried to apprehend the woman while police were on their way, but the woman assaulted the employee and fled.

Officers located the woman a short distance away and arrested her.

As a result, a 26-year-old Tilbury woman is charged with theft and being in possession of property obtained by crime.
