A Tilbury man faces a slew of charges after a bizarre morning Sunday.

Police say a man approached a residence on Winterline Road yesterday morning about 9 a.m. and asked to use the phone to get a ride, as his truck had broken down.

Shortly after the man hopped into a cab and headed to a Tim Hortons in Chatham, the homeowner noticed the man’s truck was on fire.

Police and firefighters attended. It turns out the truck was stolen from Kingsville and had stolen plates.

Officers went to the coffee shop to try to find the man and police say he fled when he saw the officers. But they managed to catch up to him and made an arrest.

During the pursuit, police say the man dropped items that belonged to a residence on Belle Rose Line.

A 21-year-old Tilbury man is charged with three counts of possession of stolen property, arson, theft, and eight counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
