Chatham-Kent police believe a social media post threatening a school shooting Friday was earmarked for another community.

In fact, Waterloo Regional police have made an arrest in connection with a school threat.

On April 2, the Waterloo police received word from the principal at Jacob Hespeler Secondary School (JHSS) after students saw threatening graffiti on a storage unit near that school’s football field.

The graffiti said “JHSS – school shooting April 6th.”

Police say the graffiti was shared on social media, and concerned parents reached out to police.

A day later, a youth was arrested and charged with mischief and uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death.

Meanwhile, C-K police believe the photo circulating locally is referencing the Waterloo graffiti.

But they aren’t taking any chances.

Const. Renee Cowell stated, “As with any threat to public safety, we are taking this photo very seriously. I can assure everyone that we are working very diligently with school officials to ensure the safety and security of all students and teachers here in Chatham-Kent. Established protocols and best practices will be followed to keep our community safe.”

Cowell added, “We are asking everyone to remain vigilant at this time. If you see or hear anything suspicious, please call police immediately.”
