A Chatham man was arrested after an attempted break and enter and assault last night.
Shortly after 5:00 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on Harvey Street in Chatham. A man forced his way into the residence and assaulted the male tenant known to him. A pregnant woman in the home witnessed the altercation and attempted to step in. The man pushed her back causing her to fall. The male tenant was able to forcibly remove the man from the residence and called the police.
Officers located the man a short distance away from the home and he was arrested. Paramedics attended the scene as a precaution.
An 18-year-old Chatham man has been charged with break and enter and two counts of assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
