OPP patrolling the 401 in the Chatham-Kent area were kept busy this holiday weekend, pulling over some of our neighbours to the south for the use of radar detectors.

According to a release, over the holiday weekend from July 1 to 3, OPP officers on patrol pulled over a total of 10 people from the U.S. for a traffic violations which led to the discovery of the devices. Drivers from Tennessee, New York, Kentucky, Illinois (three) and Michigan (four) were caught and charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

In Canada, the only provinces that allow the use of the devices are British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

In the U.S., most states allow the devices in personal vehicles, but some states have banned their use in commercial vehicles. Virginia, Washington, D.C., and all U.S. military bases have a ban in place for all vehicles.

Fines for the use of the devices are up to $1,000 for the first offence.
