Trio nabbed ten minutes after theft

A trio of Chatham men managed to get away with a home burglary for all of 10 minutes before behind apprehended by police last night.

At about 7:20 the owner of a residence on Briardene Street in Chatham heard some noises, checked her garage and realized it had been robbed.

Police were called and the homeowner provided a description of the bicycles and leaf blower that had been stolen.

About ten minutes later  an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle driving with no headlights on.  The officer initiated a traffic stop on Raleigh Street and through investigation observed the men to be in possession of the two bicycles and leaf blower stolen from Briardene Street.

All three men were arrested and transported to police headquarters.  The recovered stolen property was returned to the homeowner.

Through investigation police believe two of the men forced their way into an attached garage while the third man stayed in the vehicle.

 A 25-year-old man, 30-year-old man, 36-year-old man, all from Chatham, were charged with break and enter and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.  All three men have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
