Charged in theft from vehicles

After a month-long investigation police have charged a 20-year-old Chatham man with theft and possessing stolen property.

On October 3 around 4:30 a.m. police received a report of three suspicious men looking into vehicles on Robertson Avenue in Chatham. Officers located the men in the area of Harvey Street and Lacroix Street. Through investigation, one of the men was found to be in possession of a backpack containing property believed to have been stolen from vehicles.

Through investigation, police identified the owners of the property. Yesterday afternoon, the 20-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with three counts of theft under $5000 and one count of being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of November 13. The other two men were identified as bystanders and not directly involved.
