Unlucky seven charges

Burlington OPP detachmentPhoto by David RitchieOn May 13, 2015, just after 5:00 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on patrol in the area of Thames Street and Grand Avenue, Chatham, when he came upon a collision which had occurred involving a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Dodge car, at the intersection in that area.

The officer attended the scene and it was determined that the driver of the Dodge, a 28-year-old Chatham man, had been consuming alcoholic beverages. Subsequent tests indicated that the driver was over the legal limit. He was also found to be driving the vehicle with an open container of liquor.

Further investigation revealed that the driver had taken the vehicle without the owner’s consent. The vehicle was not plated and he was a Class G1 licence holder.

As a result, the driver has been charged with the following:

· Driving While Ability Impaired, under the Criminal Code of Canada

· Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol In Blood, under the Criminal Code of Canada

· Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent, under the Criminal Code of Canada

· Driving Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor, under the Liquor Licence Act

· Class G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied By Qualified Driver, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

· Class G1 Licence Holder – Driver Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero

· Drive Motor Vehicle Fail To Display Two Plates

He will appear in a Chatham court on June 5, 2015, to answer to the charges.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

The motor vehicle collision is being investigated by Chatham-Kent Police Service.
