Booze cruise?

Chatham-Kent police say a man’s attempted flight from police didn’t end well.

About 1:30 a.m. Sunday, police received a tip about a possible impaired driver on Richmond Street near Keil Drive. Officers soon tracked down the suspect’s vehicle on Keil.

They pulled over the car, but as they walked up to the question the driver, he sped off, police say.

That led to a brief car chase, which ended when the man pulled into an apartment complex on Riverview Drive. He bailed on foot, but the officers chased him down only a short distance from his vehicle, police say.

A 33-year-old Chatham man is charged with flight from police, breach of undertaking, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, over 80 (police say two breath samples registered at twice the legal limit), and driving while under suspension.

Man hit by falling tree

A Wallaceburg man is in London hospital with critical injuries after getting struck by a falling tree Friday afternoon.

Police say the man was helping his father cut down a tree on Base Line about 1:40 p.m. Friday. He misjudged where the tree would fall, and it hit him.

He was taken to London by air ambulance.

Break-ins

Someone broke into a Riverview Drive apartment in Chatham sometime between Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1 a.m.

Thieves made off with about $500 in baby products and clothing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Dave Miller at davidm@chatham-kent.ca or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

On Saturday, sometime between 5:15 p.m. and 10:25 p.m., someone broke into a residence on Oak Street in Wallaceburg and stole a 32-inch Toshiba flat screen TV, a black Xbox 360, and video games valued at $500.

Police say a suspicious man was seen in the area, and is described as wearing a black hoodie and carrying a backpack, riding a black bike.

Domestic in Tilbury

Shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, a man and his girlfriend began to argue in Tilbury, and it escalated, as police say he slapped her in the face.

A 41-year-old Tilbury man faces charges of assault.

Warrants and breaches

Failing to attend court in November for a June domestic incident involving a knife landed a man in jail Sunday.

Police found the suspect on Patteson Avenue in Chatham.

On June 28, police say a man and woman began arguing on Park Street, with the man demanding money from his relative. He threatened her while holding a pocketknife and then cut up a pair of her shoes, police say.

At the time, police arrested the man and he was charged with uttering threats, being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief.

He never showed up for his Nov. 26 court date.

A man and woman are in custody for breaching their release conditions.

Police say in May, the woman signed off on a probation order not to associate or even communicate with a specific Chatham man. In August and September, she was released from custody with the same conditions.

Police, while investigating another matter Sunday afternoon on Mary Street, found the two together.

A 22-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply and breach of probation.

A 28-year-old man of no fixed address was also charged with breach of probation for communicating with the woman.
