Chatham-Kent police say they brought in their Critical Incidence Response Team (CIRT) following a domestic dispute early Saturday morning.
According to police, the incident occurred about 2 a.m., where a man got into an argument with his former common law spouse at a home in Wheatley.
The argument escalated and the man allegedly grabbed the woman by the arm and throat and pinned her to the wall. Police say she eventually escaped and called them.
Officers learned the man was in possession of a firearm, and obtained a warrant to enter the residence. Because police believed the man had a gun, they called in the CIRT team.
CIRT officers made the arrest without incident, and seized a rifle in the home.
A 35-year-old Wheatley man faces 16 charges, including assault, assault with a weapon, threats, choking and mischief.
