The light-fingered brigade seemed to be out in force recently in Chatham-Kent.

Police saw a stolen car cruising along Baldoon Road in Chatham Wednesday and nabbed a pair of suspects.

Chatham-Kent police say the vehicle stopped when the driver noticed the police cruiser nearby, and a male passenger bolted from the vehicle.

The female driver was arrested on scene, but the cops had to call in a K-9 unit to sniff out the missing passenger. Police say he was located hiding in a carport about a block from the vehicle.

A 28-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man face charges of possession of property obtained by crime.

Meanwhile, police arrested a man they believe was responsible for the theft of meat from a local retailer.

Police say a man was seen grabbing some sausages and leaving the unnamed store without paying. Officers investigated and recognized the suspect on the video surveillance.

It didn’t take long for police to find their suspect.

A 32-year-old man is charged with theft, possession of stolen sausages and two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance.

Early this morning, about 1:20 a.m., someone saw a man leaving a Thames Street property on a bike. Police believe the man entered the home and stole a purse.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Const. Kenneth Morrell at 519-436-6600, ext. 87272 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
