Chatham-Kent police arrested a teenaged boy after a girl got shot in the mouth and face last night with a BB gun in Chatham.

Police say the trouble began when the youth saw his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend walking with friends Wednesday night just before 9 p.m. and approached. The two argued about their infant child, and the dispute escalated when the boy pulled out a BB gun and shot her in the mouth, according to police.

As the male ran away, he continued to shoot at the girl, police said, hitting her two more times in the face.

The girl was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment, while police arrested a 16-year-old boy a short while later, seizing a BB gun.

“She’s lucky she only received minor injuries,” Renee Cowell of the Chatham-Kent Police Service said.

Cowell said the incident raises several alarms.

“This is a young male assaulting a young female. You hope the girls doesn’t fall into the realm of ‘this is the way men treat women,’” she said. “On the flip side, where as a society are we falling down here when a young man does this?”

The youth faces charges of assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.

  1. Don't know where to start…..15 and 16 yr old arguing about their infant? He pulls out a BB gun? Pray for all 3 of these children. Thank goodness it was not a real gun.

  2. I think this young lady will need counseling after something so dramatic I don't think this Male Kid should have any contact with his child or that young girl and he should be locked up and put in a straight jacket!! This Boy Needs Help!!!!!!

  3. Pam it was a real gun. End of story. I am so thankful she is okay physically . It wasn't the gun that was the problem, it was the little boy holding it. what the hell was he thinking that was so bad he needed a weapon or resort to violence????

  4. Just Pathetic to think that the boy thinks that this kind of conduct is normal. But he will be treated as a young offender and will hopefully change his thinking but odds are he won't. Very sorry to have to read this but good to know this is just not something that happens in the states.
