Volunteers document each pill brought in for destruction Saturday at the annual Prescription Drug Drop Off Day at the Chatham Courthouse.

In the first six years of the program, police say the event pulled more than 9,300 pills out of medicine cabinets around the municipality. This year, another 4,501 narcotic pills were dropped off at the courthouse and the Shoppers Drug Marts in Tilbury and Wallaceburg.

Furthermore, more than 71 kilograms of various non-narcotic medications were also handed over at the locations.

Shred-It was also on hand Saturday at the courthouse, destroying bankers’ boxes of documents for $10 each. All funds raised went to Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers.
