Traffic stop leads to trafficking charges

Sunday didn’t begin well for a 21-year-old man.

Police say officers pulled over a vehicle on Elizabeth Street in Wallaceburg for a traffic violation about 12:40 a.m.

The investigating officers, police say,formed grounds to arrest an occupant of the vehicle for obstructing police.

During the search due to the arrest, police say the officers found several types of illicit drugs in the man’s possession.

As a result, a 21-year-old man is charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking of fentanyl, methamphetamines and cocaine. He was also charged with obstructing police.

What did the bathroom doors do?

A Chatham-Kent man faces charges after someone apparently didn’t like the bathroom doors at local businesses over the weekend.

Police say the first call came in just after 10 p.m. from a Third Street business.

Officers found someone had damaged the bathroom door and left the premises.

Five hours later, apparently the same person was at it again, and officers responded to a similar report. This time, they located a man matching the suspect description provided.

Police say the man gave the officers false information.

As a result, a 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with mischief and obstructing a police officer.

Car taps pole; impaired charge laid

A Woodslee woman faces impaired driving charges stemming from a Friday evening accident in Chatham.

The incident took place on Grand Avenue West in Chatham about 10 p.m.

According to witnesses, a vehicle backed into a pole while leaving a local business. Police were called and officers tracked down the vehicle on Keil Drive south.

Officers said the driver showed signs of impairment, so she was arrested.

A 46-year-old Woodslee woman is charged with impaired driving.
