Hammer time leads to charges

A man police say stole goods from a local store and hit an employee with a hammer is up on charges.

The incident occurred over the lunch hour on Tuesday at a Queen Street store. A mans was seen by witnesses jamming items into his clothing and backpack. When an employee confronted him, police say she was threatened and ultimately smacked on the hand with a hammer.

Police located the suspect and made the arrest nearby.

A 32-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with theft, possession of stolen property, assault with a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats to cause death.
