Cop injured, man charged

A Chatham man faces charges after Chatham-Kent police say he hit an officer with a thrown object on Friday morning.

Police say it all happened while police were on the scene for another arrest on Queen Street about 7:50 a.m.

As the officers were making the arrest, police say a bystander began yelling at the officers and then threw an object at one, hitting them in the arm.

Police say the officer suffered minor injuries and didn’t require medical attention.

However, the suspect tried to flee, police say, but didn’t get far.

A Chatham man, 28, is charged with obstructing a peace officer and assaulting a peace officer.

Unwarranted fibbing

A Chatham man is up on charges after police say he lied to officers Saturday morning.

It began when police were called to a Wood Street property shortly before 8 a.m. over a report of a possible break-in involving a person unlawfully occupying a trailer.

Officers found a man on the property, but police say he had permission to be there, and possessed a key.

Despite that reality, police say he provided false information multiple times to the officers, including providing a fake name.

The officers confirmed the individual’s identity and discovered that he was wanted on outstanding unendorsed warrants related to weapons offences and failing to attend court.

A Chatham man, 46, is charged with two counts of obstructing police for providing a false name on two separate occasions.

Man struck, woman arrested

Happy Father’s Day to a 60-year-old Chatham man whom police say got smacked during a property dispute on Sunday.

The incident took place Sunday morning about 9:30 a.m. He and a woman were arguing over property when the woman hit him in the face, police say.

Police were called and the investigating officer saw the man clearly had an injury above one eye.

Officers located the suspect on scene and made the arrest.

A 50-year-old Chatham woman is charged with assault.
