Warrant arrest

What began as a trespass investigation let to an arrest over a stolen vehicle on Wednesday.

Police got the call shortly after 3:30 p.m. to head to Gillard Street in Wallaceburg for a trespass to property investigation.

Officers arrived and located the man. They confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant in relation to a 2022 recovered stolen vehicle investigation.

A 40-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is charged with possession of stolen property.

You’re not supposed to be there

A Chatham man has to answer to additional charges after police say officers found him where a court order said he was not supposed to be on Wednesday.

Police responded to a disturbance on Gray Street in Chatham about 12:30 p.m. Through investigation, they learned a man, who was bound by conditions of a probation order, was observed outside a residence he was prohibited from attending.

The man was located a short distance away and arrested.

A 36-year-old Chatham man is charged with failing to comply with a probation order.

Missed court appearances

Today’s rendition of “Why bother showing up at court?” begins with an arrest on Harvey Street in Chatham about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Chatham-Kent police spotted a fellow they knew was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to drug offences.

A 42-year-old Chatham man was arrested held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: failing to attend court and two counts of possessing a controlled substance.

But, alas, he was not alone. Shortly after 4 p.m., a man walked into the courthouse on Grand Avenue. He happened to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend a scheduled court date related to an assault investigation.

A 48-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: assault with a weapon.

To cap off the 24-hour period of court no shows, police stopped a vehicle on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Through investigation, the officer confirmed a passenger was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to a 2021 stolen vehicle investigation.

A 42-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: theft, theft of motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and two counts of failing to attend court.
