Teen brandishes knife, arrested

A Chatham teenager faces weapons charges after police allege he pulled out a knife on a bystander Tuesday evening.

Police say a group of youths were walking on Raleigh Street when one of them punched a for-sale sign. That’s when a bystander confronted them and police say one teen brandished a “flick” knife.

Police were called and the youth was located and arrested. 

At 6:38 p.m., police responded to Raleigh Street in Chatham for a weapons investigation.

A 16-year-old Chatham boy is charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released into the custody of a parent and has a future court date.

Slumbering driver arrested for impaired

A Kent Bridge man has to answer to impaired driving charges after police received a report of a driver apparently asleep at the wheel at an intersection in Chatham early Wednesday morning.

Police got the call about 5:40 a.m. and headed to the intersection of King Street West and Lacroix Street. They found the vehicle and officers believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him. The man was transported to police headquarters for tests.

A 24-year-old Kent Bridge man was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.
