Dangerous driving near Morpeth

A man faces dangerous driving charges, and more, after Chatham-Kent police say he tried to flee from an officer.

Shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday, while on general patrol, an officer observed a vehicle travelling west on Talbot Trail near McPherson Road near Morpeth. The officer confirmed the vehicle had been stolen that morning from St. Thomas.

The officer conducted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to pull over at first. However, after a short distance, the vehicle pulled over, and the man exited the vehicle.

A 28-year-old Ontario man was charged with possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada, and mischief. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while under suspension.

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing. The man will also face charges laid by the St. Thomas Police Service regarding the theft.

She couldn’t stay away

A woman turned herself in at police headquarters Thursday morning after police say she violated conditions of her bail.

On Wednesday morning, about 4:45 a.m., police arrested the woman for intimate partner violence offences and released her with a condition prohibiting her from communicating with the victim.

That evening, shortly after 9:10 p.m., officers responded to the victim’s home and learned the woman had been calling and messaging him.

The woman was contacted by telephone and advised she would be charged for the violation.

On Thursday morning, she turned herself in.

Another impaired charge

In the middle of a sunny Thursday afternoon, police received information a woman travelling from Chatham to Tilbury on Queens Line was driving impaired.

Officers attended the area and located the vehicle travelling south on Ella Street in Tilbury. The officer conducted a traffic stop and believed the woman was driving while impaired.

A roadside breath test was administered, and the woman was arrested. She was transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.

A 56-year-old Chatham woman was charged with failing or refusing to comply with a breath demand.
