A 14-year-old Chatham teen is faces multiple charges in connection with the Oct. 30 fire at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

Someone lit a fire in a second floor bathroom at CKSS about 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 30. Emergency crews responded and firefighters quickly put out the fire. The firefighters believed it was arson, and so an investigation began.

Investigators identified a suspect and formed grounds to charge the youth in connection with the incident.

On Monday, police charged the youth with arson, disregard for human life; and arson, damage to property.

He was to make a court appearance Tuesday.

  1. I hope he is receiving counselling. This is obviously a child in crisis. In addition to arresting him, what kind of mental health services is he receiving? Can the anyone comment on that? Slapping a 14 year old with four major charges doesn’t address the problem; the punitive model doesn’t work anymore for kids. I’ve worked in high schools with marginalized teens for twenty years, and my son attends this school. This was supposedly the boy who was going to shoot up the school on Monday. So this kid gets charges and court dates, but this kid needs HELP
