Single youth charged in group assault

No word from Chatham-Kent police if they are seeking to charge others in relation to a swarming last week in Chatham.

However, one Chatham teen has been arrested following the Oct. 23 attack on Cecile Street in Chatham.

Police learned a youth had been chased by a group of students, who knocked the victim to the ground while punching and kicking them repeatedly. The group then chased the victim and proceeded to kick, punch and stomp on them, police say.

On Oct. 31, a 16-year-old Chatham girl was arrested and charged with one count of assault cause bodily harm.

Fentanyl found in routine traffic stop

On Tuesday morning at about 10:30 a.m., a Chatham-Kent police officer spotted a man, who was known to them, driving while prohibited.

Police pulled the vehicle over and made an arrest. However, as they searched the man as part of the arrest process, police say an officer found a clear plastic baggie that had about an ounce of fentanyl in it.

A 31-year-old Chatham man was arrested for two counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
