Guns drawn, police make arrest

Some tense moments briefly Sunday morning underground in Chatham.

Emergency crews responded to a call about 9:45 a.m. of a fire under a parking lot on King Street West, to an area known as the cave.

Police arrived on the scene and spotted a man. Officers observed what appeared to be the handle of a firearm tucked in the man’s waist. They officers drew their guns to make an arrest.

Police say the man was co-operative. As he was searched, police found a BB gun and suspected methamphetamine.

A 56-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Assault charges

One man faces assault charges after someone had their hands around another man’s throat Sunday evening.

At 5:58 p.m., police responded to Timmins Crescent in Chatham for an assault investigation.

Through investigation, officers learned the two men had argued. The argument escalated when one man grabbed the other man by the throat.

A 58-year-old Chatham Township man was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Stolen ride recovered, man arrested

The report of a pickup truck parked in the middle of a street in Wallaceburg in the middle of the night has led to an arrest.

Police got the call about 2:15 a.m. Monday morning of the truck parked in the middle of Bruce Street.

Before police showed up, the truck drove away. Responding officers told which direction the truck headed.

Officers located the vehicle behind a business on Nelson Avenue and a man a short distance away. Police also confirmed the vehicle was reported stolen, and the man was arrested.

A 39-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with possession of stolen property.
