Pellet guns confiscated near school

Chatham-Kent police confiscated pellet guns on Monday afternoon from people right next door to a public school in Chatham.

Police say they received a report shortly after noon of a person with a firearm near Victor Lauriston Public School, which is on Alexandra Avenue on the south side of Chatham.

Upon arrival, officers located three individuals in a backyard adjacent to the school. They were found to be in possession of pellet guns, police say.

Police report officers continue to investigate and add the pellet guns were handed over to police as part of the investigation,

“We understand the concern and alarm that incidents involving weapons can cause, especially in a school environment. We want to assure the public that there is no concern for their safety,” police officials said in a media release.
