An abandoned house in Wallaceburg burned down Friday night.

Firefighters from four stations responded to the blaze that was first called in about 11:20 p.m.

The fire, at 654 Water Street, proved stubborn, as the first crews on the scene arrived to see flames coming out of the main floor windows in the two-storey home.

The house, confirmed to be abandoned according to the property owner, had the flames reach into the attic, despite efforts of the firefighters.

Officials said crews worked through the night to fight the fire. The property owner was able to bring in an excavator Saturday morning to demolish the building.

Officials say there were no injuries and the cause of the fire is undetermined.
