Second arrest in assault investigation 

Chatham-Kent police, in less than a week, have made two arrests in connection with a June 18 assault investigation.

On that date, at 1:40 a.m., police responded to a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Police learned a physical altercation occurred between two men, requiring medical attention for their injuries. Through investigation, video evidence and the severity of the injuries sustained, the officer formed grounds to arrest both men.

One man was arrested Aug. 3, while the second suspect, a 28-year-old Chatham man, was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm late Wednesday afternoon.

Resisting arrest

An Etobicoke man faces charges after Chatham-Kent police found someone sitting in a bush in a Merlin backyard Wednesday night. They say he had called them repeatedly.

At 9:14 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on the man after receiving several 911 calls from him. The calls were traced to Erie Street in Merlin.

Police arrived in the area, and after a ground search, a man was located sitting in a bush next to a shed in the backyard of a residence.

The man failed to get out of the bush when directed, and was unco-operative with the officers, police say. The man was eventually taken into custody and transported to police headquarters.

A 37-year-old Etobicoke man was charged with resisting arrest and being intoxicated in a public place. He was transported to police headquarters and held until he was sober.

Warrant arrest

It began with suspicion and ended with a set of steel bracelets.

On Thursday morning just before 5 a.m., a police officer conducting regular patrol located a man behind a business on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Following confirmation that the man was wanted on multiple warrants; he was arrested by the officers.

A 46-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing several charges, which include theft, possession of stolen property, assault, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, and three counts of failing to attend court. The man was transported to the police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Skipped court date

Police responded to a home on Park Lane in Chatham for a disturbance Thursday evening.

Police arrived on the scene and located the man. Officers confirmed the man was wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to attend court.

A 27-year-old Dresden man was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
