Scratch the name Dover Beach.
Chatham-Kent council opted to change the popular Lake St. Clair beach’s name to Mitchell’s Bay Beach, the moniker that’s normally used by the community far and wide.
The change was approved recently by Chatham-Kent council following a request from the Mitchell’s Bay Area Association. Concerns had been expressed regarding safety, as first-responders could be confused about where to go in the event of an emergency, and to simplify tourist branding and communication.
North Kent Coun. Jamie McGrail who resides in Mitchell’s Bay, is pleased with council’s action.
“I think it’s a forward-thinking decision and the right decision,” McGrail said following the meeting.
The beach was named Dover Beach following the amalgamation of Chatham-Kent in 1998.
