Members of the C-K Singers need help. They want more voices to join their group to make beautiful music.
Sam Burton first started The Kent Glee Club in the 1950s. It folded but was revived under the directorship of Jean and Charlton Carscallen of Wallaceburg in 1975. Now, nearly five decades later, it has been led by seven different directors, accompanied by seven different pianists and practised in nine different churches around Chatham. Some of the buildings they have practised in, such as Victoria Avenue United Church, have disappeared but the choir has remained and wishes to expand its membership.
“Choir members are like gold,” President Bob Mann said in a media release. “They are in short supply and much valued. We really want to balance our sound and we particularly need bass and tenor voices to round things out.”
The C-K Singers sing in four-part harmony in a variety of styles. They sing contemporary, traditional, Broadway, country and sacred music led by director Nancy Tapley and accompanied by Joy Anderson on the piano.
On Sept. 6, they will be launching into Christmas music to prepare for the festive concert season.
The C-K Singers perform to support charities and community organizations all around Chatham-Kent. They have sung many times at nursing and retirement homes to the enjoyment of the residents and staff.
Starting on Sept. 6, they will be meeting at First Presbyterian Church in Chatham from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. For $20, you too can become part of this group. No auditions are required.
