Chatham-Kent saw its third COVID-19 related death in the almost seven months since the municipality announced its first case.

A female in her 80s passed away on Saturday at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA).

“CK Public Health provides our condolences to the individual’s family during this difficult time,” said officials in a statement.

Chatham-Kent saw two new cases of COVID-19 since Friday afternoon.

The municipality’s cumulative total now sits at 371 cases, only four of which remain active.

The third death brings Chatham-Kent’s death rate to 0.81 per cent, one of the lowest in the province, which is seeing an average rate of 5.44 per cent.

Ontario reported 615 new cases on Monday afternoon. The Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa made up all but 84 of the new cases.

On Friday at a COVID-19 press conference, Premier Doug Ford announced that assessment centres across the province will transition to appointments only. The change comes into effect on Tuesday.

More than 28,700 Chatham-Kent residents have been tested to date.

CKHA officially moved its assessment centre location on Monday. The new testing facility is set up at St. Clair College HealthPlex, 1001 Grand Ave. W, Chatham.
