Nonprofit organizations from southwestern Ontario will flock to Chatham Nov. 22 for a regional meeting.

The event, to be held at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre, will discuss trends and issues nonprofits face today, according to the United Way of Chatham-Kent’s Gabi Deryck.

“The conference is to connect the not-for-profit sector,” she said. “We’ll share trends and update groups on the Ontario Nonprofit Corporations Act and how it could impact them.”

Deryck said guest speakers include Cathy Taylor, the executive director of the Ontario Nonprofit Network; and Tonya Surman, the CEO for the Centre for Social Innovation.

Deryck hopes to see the conference draw people of all ages.

“We want youth engagement and be able to show what it means to have intergenerational connections,” she said. “Everybody has something to give.”

She said there needs to be “sector-wide labour force planning” done, and soon.

“Sixty per cent of the upper not-for-profit management will be ready to retire in the next five years,” Deryck said.

The discussion will centre on trying to attract the best and brightest.

Deryck said the mayor’s office and the Workforce Planning Board are also partnering for the event.

Cost for the day-long seminar is $75. For more information, contact the United Way of Chatham-Kent.
