Grade 10 student Emily Hiltz is one of 300-plus Ursuline College students who collected food for others instead of treats for themselves this Halloween as part of the We Scare Hunger program at the Chatham high school.
Organizer and UCC religion teacher Chris Gutteridge started the program eight years ago, with donations going to Outreach for Hunger locally and Canadian Food for Children.
Students from Ridgetown and Blenheim also participated this year.
Students exceeded this year’s goal of 15,000 cans with Chatham bringing in 12,879, Blenheim 2,421 and Ridgetown 1,520 for a total of 16,820 cans.
