Sir: It is interesting that there is so much to do in C-K. As Town Crier, I am aware and make known that there is so much in our back yard. We have a cadre of tremendous volunteers with smiling faces.
I would like more citizens and guests to know that there is another jewel that is part of the crown of C-K. Each Wednesday in the summer at 7:30 p.m., there is a free concert in Tecumseh Park by the Chatham Concert Band.
This has been happening for over 90 years. The band is under the direction of maestro Vaughn Pugh for over 30 years.
No, he wasn’t the original bandmaster but followed in the footsteps of Sid Chamberlain and Dad Worth of the Chatham Kiltie Band.
The music is always different each week with special focus on various musical renditions of time and place.
They play music, not just notes. They volunteer their time and talents for the betterment of the municipality.
You should go and hear them several times in this summer. It will be time well spent on a Wednesday evening in Chatham-Kent.
Make it a good day and a better place.
George Sims
