Fires in Wallaceburg, Chatham

Local firefighters had a busy time of it last night, battling fires in Chatham and Wallaceburg.

Both Chatham stations responded to a call about 5:30 p.m. for a fire at 41 Princess St. S.

Crews arrived to find fire had broken out in the upper apartment. Firefighters forced their way in, searched for possible victims and worked to put out the fire.

No one was injured in the fire. Four tenants were displaced as a result.

Fire officials say there were several cats in the home and some were rescued and revived by firefighters.

The cause is undetermined at this time.

A home on Highbury Crescent in Wallaceburg caught fire last night as well. Fire crews received the call about 9 p.m.

Wallaceburg firefighters, with the help of crews from Chatham, worked to protect neighbouring homes while at the same time extinguishing the fire.

There were no injuries.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating.
