Five Windsor men are in police custody after a failed break and enter in Chatham.

Yesterday morning, just before 2:00 a.m. police responded to a break and enter in progress at an apartment complex on Merritt Avenue in Chatham.

Four men, wearing disguises, attempted to enter into an apartment while carrying a firearm.

Minor damage was caused to the patio screen door.  No one was injured and the men fled the area as the homeowners called 911. Through investigation, police learned that a fifth man was waiting in the vehicle and that this was not a random act of violence.

About an hour later, officers located the vehicle and the men in a parking lot in Chatham.   Seized from the vehicle were balaclavas and a black air soft hand gun.

Two 18-year-old men and two 19-year-old men, all from Windsor Chatham, were arrested and charged with robbery and firearm related offences.  A 16-year-old Windsor youth, was also arrested and charged with the same offences.

All five men were transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.
