A man is in police custody after fleeing from a traffic stop while driving a stolen car.
Yesterday morning around 9:10 a.m., an officer on general patrol saw a stolen vehicle from Sarnia with improper plates leaving a residence on King Street in Wallaceburg. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Duke Street, however before the officer left his cruiser, the man drove away to a residence on John Park Line and fled on foot. Officers were allowed entry into a residence by the homeowner and the man was located. Upon being arrested, the man gave a false name, however through previous incidents with police, his true identity was quickly determined.
The 28-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with using plates not authorized for vehicle, flight from peace officer, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, obstruct peace officer, seven counts of driving while disqualified and two counts of failing to comply with release conditions. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
