The Chatham Pool Sharks pulled out all the stops at this past weekend’s SEAL League Championship in Windsor.
For many swimmers, this marks the end of the short course season until next year.
The SEAL League brings together swimmers from Southwestern Ontario who compete against each other throughout the year and finish with a championship meet.
The SEAL League is often where swimmers get their first taste of competitive swimming and many continue on to compete in this league for most of their swim career.
The Sharks brought home three first-place championship trophies, two second-place trophies, and a third place trophy. Swimmers compete for overall trophies by accumulating points for each of the four main strokes: freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly. Top honours go to:
Gabe Sasseville- 7/u boys champion
Quinn Matteis- 10/11 yr. old boys champion
Clare Gillis- Tied for 12/13 yr. old girls champion
Top 3 championship finishes also go to:
Kadance Matteis- 2nd in 8/9 yr. old girls
Alex Theil – 2nd place in 8/9 boys
Connor McFadden- 3rd place in 12/13 boys
Scoring a top 8 finish in an individual event were: Molly Cordeiro, Gino De Santis, Averie Gobert, Noah Matteis, Grace Reaume, and Cameron Schinkelshoek.
Additionally, the team achieved 74 personal best times.
