Police are warning people to be wary of fraud in person or over the phone.

Earlier this month, a 69-year-old Blenheim man told police he had been the victim of a telephone and internet scam.  In July 2015, the victim received a telephone call from an unknown man saying he was from Microsoft Security offering to sell him antivirus software.  The victim agreed and gave the man remote access to his computer, which included financial access to his bank and credit card information.  Between July 2015 and April 2016, the victim lost $1,600.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone that personal or financial information should never be provided to a stranger over the phone or to an unsolicited source.  Also, never give anyone remote access to your computer until you’ve confirmed their legitimacy.
