Chatham-Kent OPP have charged a man after someone knocked down a speed limit sign on Highway 401 near Scane Side Road Tuesday.

Police say they received a complaint that a tractor-trailer had flattened the sign about 2 p.m. July 7. Officers located the truck, which had left the 401 at Victoria road, and chatted with the driver.

They learned the driver was westbound on the 401, but then decided to use an emergency U-turn, police say, and the truck hit the sign while making the illegal turn.

A 37-year-old man from Surrey, B.C., is charged with disobeying a sign, failing to report damage to property on the highway and fail to surrender CVOR (Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration) certificate.
