Self-checkout at a grocery store generally involves people bagging their own groceries as they pay for their items.
But not in this case.
Police say on July 6, a man entered a Tilbury grocery store and loaded up his cart with dairy and meat products.
He then placed the items into reusable grocery bags, police say, before leaving the store without paying, walking out with about $250 in food.
Investigating officers obtained surveillance footage from the store and distributed it throughout the police service. Several officers identified the suspect as a known career criminal.
Police tried, and failed to find the man, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Last night, police tracked the man down in a driveway on Cecil Street in Ridgetown.
A 56-year-old Ridgetown man is charged with theft and possession of stolen items.
