Charges laid in scooter fatality

A week after a woman was struck and killed while driving her mobility scooter in Blenheim police have charged the driver that hit her with careless driving.

In the early afternoon of June 11, a vehicle collided with a mobility scooter at the Chatham Street North and Hannibal Street intersection in Blenheim.

Jennie Verbeek, 41, the woman on the scooter, suffered life-threatening injuries and was later airlifted to hospital in London, where she died.

On Thursday, a 33-year-old North Buxton man was charged with careless driving. He’s in court July 15.
