A Tilbury man faces weapons offences after an incident in Tilbury Monday.
Police say officers responded to a call about 4 p.m. of a man in a field near St. Clair Street carrying a long gun that had a scope on it. He fled from police, crossing a ditch and running along the edge of the field, near residential housing.
Police say the man eventually stopped running and dropped the gun, following officer’s orders, and was arrested without further incident.
The gun was found to be a Ruger Blackhawk .177 cal. pellet gun, which was loaded.
A 35-year-old Tilbury, faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in connection with the incident. He was released pending a future court date.
But police say they later learned the man is bound by a lifetime prohibition not to possess any firearms. He now faces an additional charge of disobeying a court order.
