ELECTION ’26: Victoria Stewart, Ward 5

Why are you running?

I spent nearly six years working in Wallaceburg and became deeply connected to its people. I have seen the community’s challenges, strengths, and untapped potential. I am running because I believe Wallaceburg and the surrounding area need a strong, prepared voice on council, and because my experience can help turn thoughtful decisions into meaningful action.

What are the two biggest issues for the next term of council?

The first is restoring confidence in how taxpayers’ money is used. After several years of significant tax increases, residents need council to carefully research spending proposals, set clear priorities, and plan for essential infrastructure with long-term costs in mind. Council must make responsible choices today without creating larger costs tomorrow – and clearly explain what is being spent, why it is necessary, and what residents should expect in return.

The second is creating welcoming communities where people feel safe, included, and able to belong. That includes access to housing, support for people who are unhoused or experiencing mental health and addiction challenges, and services and opportunities that help residents remain connected and thrive.

What do you hope to achieve if elected?

I want to help build economic momentum, ensure Ward 5 receives fair consideration in municipal decisions and investment, and improve communication between residents and the municipality. Most importantly, I want good ideas and careful planning to lead to visible, practical results.

What skills and experience do you bring?

I hold a Bachelor of Commerce – Business Administration and Economics and have extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, governance, budgeting, strategic planning, grant development, and community partnerships. I listen carefully, examine complex information from all angles, work constructively with different perspectives, and follow through. My nearly six years leading the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre also gave me a strong understanding of the community and its residents.

Are you a fan of Donald Trump? No.
