Why are you running?
I will use my 11 years of experience having served in the Ontario Legislature as MPP for Chatham-Kent-Leamington along with lessons learned and apply that knowledge at the municipal level where I believe I can have a greater positive impact for my community.
What are the two biggest issues for the next term of council?
Priority #1 is to look for ways to lessen the tax burden on taxpayers.
Priority #2 is do an in-depth analysis of our aging infrastructure and begin immediately to repair or replace.
What do you hope to achieve if elected?
Create safer, family-oriented communities throughout the municipality. This would be accomplished by creating strategies regarding the homelessness.
Working with provincial ministries to help alleviate our doctor shortage and to lessen wait times in our two hospitals.
Lessen the development costs that the city imposes on the building of greenhouses.
Create an “open for business” template that encourages both small and large businesses to come to C-K to thrive. More businesses mean better-paying jobs which provides families with more disposable income. More businesses could also mean lessening the tax burden on families.
What skills and experience do you bring?
Having Corporate Canada experience, I have seen how budgeting works (and doesn’t work). I then took that experience and ran my own training and development company for 25 years having taught and trained thousands throughout Canada and the U.S. in leadership and other “soft skills” programs.
I have learned the value of listening to people and working with them to help them achieve their desired outcomes.
On the political scene, many know that I am a relationship builder. Over the years, I have made many strong contacts who could help our community in fulfilling the financial resources we need to grow.
