Sass Road improvements coming

The intersection at Park Avenue East and Sass Road in Chatham is about to see significant improvements.

The work, approved by Chatham-Kent council Aug. 10, includes the installation of a new traffic light. Road widening for turn lanes, a new catch basin, concrete curbs and a sidewalk on Sass Road to Junction Avenue are also planned.

A nearby bus stop will be moved and accessibility to it will be improved, according to an engineering staff report.

Sass Road will be closed for a portion of the project, the report stated but Park Ave. E and Creek Road will remain open for the duration. All businesses will retain access and appropriate detours will be posted.

Work on the intersection is expected to commence this fall to finish in December. Funding for the project was approved through the 2026 Capital Budget.

A tender of $1,594,680 was awarded to Sterling Ridge Infrastructure Inc. of LaSalle., with an additional $103,000 contract to R.V. Anderson Associates Ltd. for reviewing the intersection and making recommendations.
