Improvements underway at ARTspace

Although temporarily closed, ARTspace in downtown Chatham is expected to reopen in the near future.

That’s according to East Kent Coun. Morena McDonald, who put forward a successful motion in July to keep the facility open for another two years.

McDonald said Chatham-Kent is making some improvements at ARTspace and the building will remain closed until these are complete.

“We will provide an update on the work as the information becomes available,” McDonald told The Voice.

Located at 165 1/2 on King St., the municipally operated community access gallery has been the host venue for dozens of art exhibitions over the years and has showcased many local artists.

ARTspace typically operates 20 hours per week, opening from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. The municipality supplies a staff member to oversee it.

No timeline has been given as to when the work will be finished.
