50/50 luck lands in Thamesville

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation staff surprised Kristine Ellis at her Thamesville home with the news of her $44,430 Igniting Healthcare Retro 50/50 Grand Prize.

Kristine Ellis opted to support the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation, and that effort earned her more than $44,000 in winnings.

The Thamesville woman won the grand price in the CKHAF’s Igniting Healthcare Retro 50/50. Ellis took home $44,430.

Shortly after the draw, the Foundation team surprised Ellis at her home with the news, presenting her with the Grand Prize cheque as she reacted with excitement and disbelief.
“I’ve always supported the hospital 50/50s because it’s local. You know the money is staying here and helping people in our own community,” said Ellis in a media release. “We’ve had family members cared for at the hospital, so you really appreciate how important that is. I still can’t believe this happened!”
A longtime supporter of the Foundation’s 50/50s, Kristine purchased the winning ticket online on May 17. Although she made another ticket purchase the night before the draw, it was her earlier purchase that included the lucky winning number.

While she’s still deciding exactly how she’ll spend her winnings, Ellis said one thing is already certain. She plans to donate a portion of the prize to support an upcoming mission trip through her church, a cause that’s very close to her heart.
This year’s Igniting Healthcare Retro 50/50 raised $88,860 in total ticket sales, with proceeds supporting the areas of greatest need at CKHA. These funds help the Foundation invest in medical equipment, innovative technology, patient-care initiatives and other priority needs that strengthen health care close to home.
The campaign also featured a partnership with RetroFest 2026, serving as the festival’s official 50/50 fundraiser during the May 22 and 23 event. Foundation staff and volunteers enjoyed connecting with hundreds of community members over the two-day celebration.

“Our community continues to show incredible support for local health care, and this campaign is another wonderful example of what we can accomplish together,” said Christine Mitchell, CKHAF president & CEO. “Every ticket purchased helps strengthen healthcare close to home while giving supporters the opportunity to win a life-changing prize. We couldn’t be happier for Kristine, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s Retro 50/50 such a success.”
