Pedestrian hit on Longwoods Road

Police are still trying to piece together a Wednesday night accident that left a Chatham man in London hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to Chatham-Kent police, who did not release any information to the media on the incident until Friday morning, the crash took place shortly before 11 p.m. on Longwoods Road  between Littlejohn Road and Zone Road 7 north of Moraviantown.

Police determined that a 49-year-old Chatham man was walking along Longwoods Road when he was hit by a westbound vehicle driven by a 54-year-old Thamesville woman.

The pedestrian suffered significant injuries and was taken to hospital in Newbury before being airlifted to London Health Sciences Centre with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle, who was the sole occupant, was not injured.

The roadway was closed overnight as the traffic management unit investigated. In fact, they continue to do so.
